My child loved the bouncy seat and that was a real life saver for the first several months. I could strap him in and take him into the bathroom so I could shower and I knew he was safe.
Of course you always need a car seat so that they can come home so if you want to spend that much it is a great idea. We went with the Graco Safe Seat. It allows the infant to go up to 32 inches and 30lbs. So I did not have to but a second infant carrier prior to his Britax Marathon.
If you are looking at a diaper pail. I recommend the Diaper Champ as they use any kind of bag and no refills are needed unlike the Diaper Genie. So that is a good savings for a family on a budget.
As for diapers while they all need them. I found that my child never used the newborn sizes so they were a waste of money for those who bought them for us.

You pretty much got it down, anything she’ll need. those vibrating chairs at target aer like $40, and really come in handy. You could get her some baby videos, like baby einstein…. Or just make a cute little package of all the necessities, like a first aid kit- ( with nail clippers and stuff), onesies, she’ll be going through ALOT, bibs, diapers, burp pads, a baby blanket.

Diapers I use luvs cheaper and I don’t have her wetting through often but buy at least a size 1 b/c they grow out of new born too quickly
I have never owned a diaper pail but I always wanted a Genie.
As for the gift I would get her the thing you know she’ll need like the diapers and bottles wipes and so forth though unless you want to get her a big gift

I’ve heard lots of good things about Huggies. I’ve heard that if you want a cheaper brand then to go with parents choice. they are comparable. That is what I plan on using for my baby when it is born in Jan. 2008.

I’m a father of 3 and soon to be of one more. I can tell you that I noticed my sons were really. Many babies develop allergic reactions to certain brands to diapers so I always recommend that you buy a small pack of 2-3 brands and have them try them all out if they all work then go with the ones that hold the best. For my first Son Huggies worked the best but for the other two pampers or huggies would work fine. Swings.. is a bit tricky for style and design but the ones that can switch from side to side and then front to back are awsome for babies they love the change and some like one style more than others this way you can assure they get the right swing!
Strollers whatever you can pull up and down with one hand or very little use of the second hand you don’t know how many times mothers and father pick up the baby then realize oh man I have to open up the stroller. Car seats can be bought with a stroller on many of the styles to start I would recommend it’s usually cheapier in combo this way.
KEY most important baby items is a sort of first aid kit for babies medicene and various baby grooming tools. Can’t tell you how many times I had to run out for Infant Tyolenol and Gas Medicen in the middle of the nigth. GL and enjoy the party.

Swings – My favorite swing (we tried a few) is the Fisher Price Aquarium Cradle Swing. The Papasan Cradle swing looks nice too. I like the side-to-side swinging seats.
Diapers – We like Huggies, but people vary on their diaper opinions so much. I’ve never had trouble with leaks on any of my kids, boy or girl.
Strollers – We got a Graco travel system with our first, and I liked that stroller a lot. We also have a Graco double stroller that I love. I think the MacLaren strollers are really nice too.
Diaper pail – Diaper Champ is awesome. You can use your own bags and don’t have to buy special refills like with the Diaper Genie. All diaper pails smell, but this one isn’t any better or worse than my Diaper Genie was.
car seats – Graco Snugride seats (which come with the travel systems) usually get the best safety ratings for newborn carseats. These are the ones that snap into the base and snap into a stroller. I think those are nice to have in those early months when the babies sleep so much. The Britax carseats, which go from 5 pounds to up to 80 or so, get the best safety ratings for convertible seats, which can be used backward and forward. They’re really expensive. Graco convertible seats and Evenflo seats also get good ratings. We have Graco seats and like them a lot.

Swing-definitely Fisher Price cradle swings (papasan and rainforest theme). They now come with AC adaptors to save on batteries.
Diapers-I preferred Pampers Swaddlers for newborns.
Strollers-Maclaren and Peg Perego brand strollers are awesome and worth the money.
Diaper Pail-none will completely eliminate the smell but Graco has a touch free diaper pail. The motion sensor comes in handy when your hands are full of diaper diapers and wipes. Baby Trend diaper pail is also great.
Car seats-for infant seats it would be a Britax Companion, Chicco Key Fit or a Graco Safe Seat 1 (has higher weight/height limits than the Snugride). Britax also makes awesome convertible car seats for when the baby has outgrown the infant seats.

the best thing ever are kiddopatamus swaddle blankets. my baby still uses hers and she is 5 months. babies love to be swaddled and i was always afraid of using a regular blanket. these swaddle blankets are awesome. thats how my baby knows its bedtime. at least 10 of my friends have gotten them as gifts from me at their shower and they have loved them. there are other blankets out there but these are made the best, especially if you have a squirmy baby.
and the next best thing is a bouncy seat, which others have already mentioned and with the person that mentioned bringing it in teh bathroom for a shower. excellent.

Graco makes really good swings, strollers and car seats.
Diaper pail – you can go without one of those. They are such a pain. By the time you get it changed, you could have had it in the trash and outside already. And not get nauseated on the way there!!

DIAPERS!! You can never get enough of those. Trust me. My baby goes thru 10 diapers a day. Diapers are expensive and it really helps when people give them.
Aside from that, Fisher Price Aquarium Take Along Swings are the best! They’re small and compact… you can take them from room to room. This helped me out a lot!!!!
