Maybe they think ‘women and children first’ apply everywhere. It is very stupid and dangerous and not everyone drives well or safely. They probably assume that people are more careful when it comes to children’s involvement.

I cannot talk for others..
But cars here have absolutely no consideration…
When my kid was a baby , I followed the rules : cross the street when it is OK to go..but twice almost got hit by a crazy driver trying to get ahead.
One time it was so close…I almost had a panick attack.
So not in my area sorry..
I drive and I still have to be careful about cars who do not stop in at a stop sign in a street near where I live.
Lots of crazy drivers around here..( I used to bike a lot, I pushed baby carriage…I have been on both sides)
and heck…am hitting the road now lol…
